There’s no shortage of of rumors circulating about the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus releases in September. We compiled what we think are the most valuable for iPhone users looking to upgrade this fall to the shiny device.
No headphone jack?
Here it is- a leaked photo of an alleged iPhone 7 case! 9to5Mac reported the leaked images, and they seem to support other rumors about the iPhone 7 is missing a headphone jack. The case doesn’t have a slot for the standard 3.5mm audio jack, suggesting that Apple could be moving towards Bluetooth or Lightning cable headphones. The case also has two speakers on either side of the Lightning port slot, signaling that the device will be the first to support dual speakers for stereo sound.
Some leaked images also show Smart connectors, hinting at the possibility of Smart keyboard compatibility. MacRumors reported that these images may actually be the real thing. As Apple has released tangential hardware over the last few months with new devices, it’s possible they are keeping with this trend and adding Smart accessories to the 7 and/or 7 Plus.
Glass on glass?
We all remember the iPhone 4, notorious for shattering every time you (even softly) dropped it due the glass casing on all sides. Rumor has it that Apple may bring back the glass-on-glass design in the iPhone 7, making the device more fragile than its predecessors. Apparently, Apple is looking to eliminate as much of the chin and bezel as possible on the devices to enhance the aesthetic design. Hopefully it’s a little more durable this time. But if not and you find yourself with a shattered screen, you know who to call.
Mashable previously reported on the rumor that Apple is looking to bring a dual-lens camera to forthcoming iOS devices. Based on LinX technology (that Apple acquired last year,) the dual-lens supports wide-angle lens AND a telephoto lens. The camera will be able to take two separate pictures, or use one of the lenses to shoot video and the other to take still photos. (Extra tip: if you’re looking to get even more out of your iPhone camera, check our blog post from a couple weeks ago about taking photography-worth photos on your device.)
Apple is reportedly working on ways to waterproof the iPhone 7 (yipee!). Without a headphone jack to trap excess water, they could encase the iPhone with a waterproof coating. Three cheers for worry-free in-the-pool selfies.
